About the OSRS DPS Calculator
Pick a monster, enter your stats and gear, and see your damage per second, max hit, accuracy and time to kill with melee, ranged or magic. Setups A and B are saved in this browser, and Gear Compare shows them side by side.
How to use the OSRS DPS Calculator
- Enter your combat levels, or type your RuneScape name next to them and press Import to load them from the hiscores.
- Equip a weapon and the rest of your gear. Set the attack style, prayers and potions under Boosts & style.
- Choose a target. Tick On Slayer task when you wear a slayer helmet on task.
- Read DPS, accuracy, max hit and time to kill. Open How this was calculated to see the rolls and every effect that was applied.
How the numbers are worked out
- Effective level is (level + potion boost) × prayer, rounded down, plus the attack style bonus and 8 (9 for magic). A full Void set multiplies it again.
- Melee and ranged max hit is (effective strength × (strength bonus + 64) + 320) / 640, rounded down. Gear effects such as salve, slayer helmet, dragonbane and demonbane apply after that. Magic starts from the spell or powered staff and adds your magic damage bonus.
- Hit chance compares your attack roll, effective level × (attack bonus + 64), with the monster's defence roll, (defence level + 9) × (defence bonus + 64). Against magic the monster's Magic level is used.
- Average damage per attack is hit chance × the average hit, where an accurate roll of 0 counts as 1: max / 2 + 1 / (max + 1). DPS divides that by the attack speed: weapon ticks × 0.6 seconds, one tick faster on rapid.
- Osmumten's fang uses the wiki's stronger stab accuracy formula (two full rolls inside the Tombs of Amascut) and hits between 15% and 85% of the normal max hit. The 85% figure is the max hit shown.
- Scythe of vitur hits twice on size 2 targets and three times on size 3 or larger, at full, half and quarter max hit. Twisted bow scales with the target's Magic level. Tumeken's shadow triples your magic attack and damage bonuses (four times in ToA), with magic damage capped at +100%.
- Time to kill is the monster's hitpoints divided by DPS. It does not count phases, healing, travel or overkill.
Frequently asked questions
How is DPS calculated in OSRS?
DPS is your average damage per attack divided by your attack speed in seconds. Average damage is hit chance times the average hit, with an accurate 0 counted as 1. A 4-tick weapon attacks every 2.4 seconds.
What does the DPS calculator leave out?
Special attacks, thralls, venom and poison are not counted. The result panel adds a note when your gear has an effect it leaves out, such as enchanted bolt specials, the Dharok's and Verac's set effects or Soulreaper axe stacks.
Do the salve amulet and slayer helmet stack?
No. Against undead the salve amulet's bonus is used instead of the slayer helmet's. The plain salve only boosts melee; the imbued versions also boost ranged and magic.
Why is my DPS different from a video?
Videos often use specs, thralls or phase skips that a standard-attack calculation does not include. Match the stats, boosts, attack style and target before you compare.
Can I compare two gear setups?
Yes. The calculator keeps setups A and B, and Gear Compare shows up to three setups side by side against the same target.
