The short version

Overview
Throne of Miscellania is the Experienced, Medium-length quest that makes you regent of Miscellania and unlocks Managing Miscellania. It has no skill requirements; you only need Heroes' Quest and The Fremennik Trials. Talk to King Vargas upstairs in Miscellania Castle, win the trust of Princess Astrid or Prince Brand, broker a treaty with Queen Sigrid of Etceteria, then raise the islanders' approval from 25% to 75%.
There is no combat, and no bank trip if you pack properly: an iron bar, a common ring you are happy to lose, logs, flowers, and either a bow (for Astrid) or a cake (for Brand). Mixed flowers from the Flower Girl in the castle courtyard cost 15 coins each. Trollweiss and Farming flowers are refused.
The approval grind is the longest part. Buying flowers is the fastest method. The quick guide also notes that raking weeds while hopping worlds reaches 100% in about 8 minutes, and that high-level coal mining with a good pickaxe gets there in about 10. Reaching 100% also completes a hard Fremennik diary task.

Requirements and Prerequisites
The quest itself has no skill requirements. The approval methods do, if you use them: 45 Woodcutting for maples, 10 Farming to rake, 35 Mining for coal, or 35 Fishing for tuna, lobsters and swordfish. Buying flowers needs no level at all.

Everything here fits in one inventory, so you never need to leave the islands. If you forget something, the bank is on Etceteria, across the bridge to the east.

- A common, non-silver ring you are willing to lose, such as a gold ring (not onyx, dragonstone, explorer's, beacon, 'perfect', nature, pineapple, Charos, Fremennik, ancient or key rings)
- At least one way to gain approval: coins for flowers (fastest, but click-heavy), an axe and 45 Woodcutting for maples (slower but more AFK), a rake and 10 Farming, a pickaxe and 35 Mining, or a harpoon or lobster pot and 35 Fishing
- Logs (you can cut them on the islands if you bring an axe)

- Flowers you are willing to lose: mixed flowers from the Flower Girl for 15 coins, or flowers from planting mithril seeds
- For Prince Brand: a cake or chocolate cake
- For Princess Astrid: a shortbow or longbow you are willing to lose (not a magic shortbow (i), Seercull, composite, ogre or training bow)
- Weight-reducing clothing and stamina or energy potions
- A dramen or lunar staff for the fairy ring
Where to Start
Starting location: Talk to King Vargas in the Miscellania Castle.
The sailor on the Rellekka docks takes you to Miscellania, and fairy ring CIP puts you just north of the castle (it needs Fairytale II - Cure a Queen started). King Vargas is upstairs in the south-west of the castle, and the Flower Girl is in the courtyard.
Walkthrough, Stage by Stage
Pick one royal and follow only that path; talking to King Vargas again lets you switch.

Starting out.
Travel to Miscellania and buy flowers from the Flower Girl if you do not have any.

Speak with King Vargas upstairs in the south-west of the castle and choose which royal you will court.

Princess Astrid path.
Talk to her in the room directly north of the king, again each time the dialogue closes, until she only says "Good day". Good answers include "Archery is a noble art!", "He's been very helpful" and "Hahahaha".

Use flowers on her (you lose them), then use the Dance emote inside her room.

Keep talking and picking the flattering options until she only says "Good day" again, for example "That sounds like a good idea.", "What happened next?" and "It's a lovely little country."

Use the bow on her (you lose it) and talk to her again.

Use the Blow Kiss emote, repeat the agreeing until she calls you dear or darling, then blow another kiss.

You can then ask her to marry you or decline; the quest continues the same way.

Prince Brand path.
Talk to him in the room directly south of the king until he only says "Good day". After his poem, choose "Be still, my heart" and use the Clap or Cheer emote while standing inside the room.

Repeat the agreeing, then use the cake on him (do not eat it) and repeat once more.

When he greets you as dear or darling, use Blow Kiss in his room and use the ring on him.
Silver and pineapple rings do not work.

On the way out, rake the herb and flax patches outside the Miscellania castle gates; doing it each time you pass saves approval work later. Then head east over the bridge to Etceteria and talk to Queen Sigrid upstairs.

Return west and talk to King Vargas, then go back east and talk to the Queen again.

Talk to Prince Brand in the room south of the king for the awful anthem.

Talk to Advisor Ghrim next to the king to fix it into a good anthem.

Take the good anthem to Queen Sigrid for the treaty, then bring the treaty back to King Vargas.

Head north to the house with the anvil and talk to Derrik with an iron bar in your inventory to get a giant nib.

Use the giant nib on your logs to make a giant pen and take it to the king.

Raise approval to 75% with any of the methods in the next section. Advisor Ghrim tells you your current rating.

If the prince or princess stops responding because you impressed them too much without talking, switch to the other royal through King Vargas to reset that progress.
How to Get 75% Approval
You start at 25% (lower if you have killed villagers or stolen from stalls). Each task the islanders thank you for adds approval, and the gain varies by method.

The quick guide reckons that raking the patches outside the Miscellania castle gates every time you pass during the treaty errands gets most players to around 60% before the grind even starts. The islanders will not tell you your progress until the quest is done, so check with Advisor Ghrim.
Rewards and Unlocks

After this quest, the coffers hold up to 5,000,000 coins and pay 10% of their balance a day as wages, capped at 50,000, so 500,000 in the coffers is enough for the full wage. Approval drops 2.5% a day and resources are collected at midnight UTC. Royal Trouble raises all of these limits.
Common Mistakes and Warnings
Almost every stuck Throne of Miscellania run is a wrong item.
- Bringing trollweiss or Farming flowers. Only mixed flowers or mithril seed flowers work.
- Bringing a silver, pineapple or other special ring. Use a gold ring.
- Giving Astrid a magic shortbow (i), Seercull, composite, ogre or training bow.
- Eating the cake instead of using it on Prince Brand.
- Doing the emotes from the doorway. You have to stand inside the room.
- Killing villagers or stealing from stalls before or during the quest.
- Forgetting logs for the giant pen. Evergreen trees on the islands work if you brought an axe.
Ironman Notes
Flowers from the Flower Girl are the simplest option. Bring a little over 2,300 coins and you will not run short.
If coins are tight, coal or maples give approval and XP at the same time; you keep the full experience but not the resources.
Plan Royal Trouble soon after. It takes the kingdom from 10 to 15 workers and adds 50% to each worker's output.
