What Is GIM in OSRS? Group Ironman Rules and Items Guide

GIM stands for Group Ironman, an Old School RuneScape account mode where 2 to 5 players each play an Ironman account and progress as one team. Group members can trade each other freely and share a group storage bank, but nobody in the group can trade outside it or use the Grand Exchange. Jagex released the mode on 6 October 2021.

There are three versions. Ranked groups are listed on the Group Ironman HiScores. Hardcore groups also share a pool of one life per member, so a group of three loses Hardcore status on its third death. Unranked groups are off the HiScores and have no trade caps or killcount rules, and Unranked is the only version an existing solo Ironman can convert into.

GIM items is what players call the gear and supplies a group earns and passes around. The game blocks trades with anyone outside the group, so every rune, potion and weapon has to reach you through a group member: a Herblore account making prayer potions, a combat account getting the killcount for boss uniques, a skiller keeping the shared bank stocked.

That chain is where groups stall. A late joiner cannot even wield an abyssal whip until they have killed a monster that drops one, and storage stays at 80 slots for the first five weeks, so a group that has not split its skills early runs short on supplies fast.

The BILS GIM shop lists PvM gear, raid drops, herbs, runes and supplies, each with a price in OSRS gold and a live stock count. If a line you need is empty, open a ticket anyway, since missing items can usually be sourced the same day.

A GIM account can only trade its own group, so the handover goes through the group system. The steps on the shop page: have your group leader available and one free space in your team (if your group is full, you can join the BILS group on a freshly made level 3 account instead), receive the items once payment is complete, then start the seven-day leave process straight away so you can rejoin your team.

Group changes have side effects in the game itself: a member added after a group is created costs that group its prestige star. If the account that joins is not a fresh one from The Node, a ranked or Hardcore group becomes Unranked, loses Hardcore status and every member drops off the Group Ironman HiScores. Anyone leaving a group picks ranked, Unranked or regular status. Ask in the ticket which route fits your group before you pay.

GIM is Ironman for 2 to 5 players with one shared bank, and it turns a solo grind into a supply chain. Groups that split skills early and write their drop rules down in week one get further than groups that leave it to chance.

Read the mode's own rules first. Storage unlocks, the four-week trade cap and the killcount rule catch most new groups off guard. Then decide as a group whether an item order is worth it, because it only works when everyone agrees to it.
