OSRS Crab Quest Guide: Dognose Island, Shells & 10k Sailing XP

Full walkthrough for Crab Quest (8 September 2026): 40 Sailing, 30 Fishing, the Dognose Island bottle, nine shells, the homemade instrument, 12 ceremonial crabs, dialogue answers, 1 QP, and the playable shell collection.
The Short Answer
Crab Quest is a new Intermediate members quest from 8 September 2026 — the same patch as A Ruff Situation. Sail to Dognose Island (north-west of the Great Conch), drink the beach bottle, help a crab become a ceremony leader, and leave with 1 QP, 10,000 Sailing XP, 3,000 Fishing XP, and a shell collection that other players can actually hear.
- Start: drink the strange bottle on Dognose Island beach.
- Hard reqs: 40 Sailing, 30 Fishing, members.
- Bring: 9 empty inventory slots. Big fishing net is obtained on the island.
- Set piece: sit-down emote for shy crabs; magic-tree crab is slow.
- Payoff: 10k Sailing, 3k Fishing, playable shells.

Walkthrough: A Crabby Guy
- Sail to Dognose Island, north-west of the Great Conch.
- Drink from the bottle on the beach. You pass out (the game compares it to getting kicked off Entrana).
- Talk to the nearby crab. A mating ceremony is starting: dance, sand nests, find a mate. He is not a leader because he has no instrument.
- Pick up all nine shells around the island.
- He cannot play them. Suggest a string instrument.
- Grab the big fishing net just north, then fish flotsam on the southern edge of the beach.
- You get a sea-soaked bowstring, battered barrel, and weathered rosewood plank. Use the plank on the bowstring to make the instrument.
- Give it to the crab, pick a name, show him how to play. He sends you to recruit other ceremonial leaders.

Walkthrough: Drawing the Crabs
Find 12 crabs by investigating trees and bushes. Speak to each one. Shy crabs need the sit down emote, then a short wait. The crab in the magic tree takes much longer than the others — do not leave early.
Dialogue answers that matter
Two crabs need correct replies. For the counting crab: choose 1, 2, 3, 10..., then 100 years, then On the beach. For the last question, pick how am I possibly supposed to know that? (They count in base 4 — crabs have four “fingers.” Do not pick 142; that answer invents a digit they do not have.)
- Investigate every marked tree and plant until all 12 leaders are recruited.
- Use sit down if a crab will not come out.
- Return to the beach crab and wait for the other leaders.
- Watch the ceremony cutscenes: music, a penguin cameo, two lovelorn crabs figuring it out.

Rewards
- 1 Quest Point.
- 10,000 Sailing experience.
- 3,000 Fishing experience.
- Shell collection — unpack outside banks and the Wilderness into seven shells that play notes other players can hear.
The shells are the unique toy. XP is the practical reason to put this on a Sailing grind day rather than “later.”
FAQ
Is this a real quest or just a meme?
Both. The writing parodies Crab Rave and membership-price memes, but the wiki lists it as quest 183 with skill requirements, a walkthrough, QP, and XP. It counts.
Where do I start?
Dognose Island, north-west of the Great Conch. Drink the bottle on the beach — that starts it. You cannot start from a quest list in a city.
A crab will not come out of a tree.
Sit down and wait. The magic-tree crab is intentionally slow.
Should I do A Ruff Situation the same day?
Yes if you can. Ruff Situation is 15 Crafting and Varrock; Crab Quest is a Sailing trip. Same news post, two quest pages: A Ruff Situation guide.

Bottom Line
Crab Quest is a new 2026 Intermediate quest: sail to Dognose Island, drink the bottle, craft a junk-wood instrument, sit down for shy crabs, answer the base-4 riddle, and bank 10k Sailing XP plus playable shells. The humour is the flavour; the XP and the unique item are why it belongs in a quest log the same week it launched.
