The short version
30-second read- Five uniques, no drop rates yet. The unique chest gives the Obligator, Ascension crossbows, Rondache, Zorya's tome or Horn of Bran, and the wiki lists every rarity as Unknown.
- Path choice does not change your odds. Every boss option gives the same total contribution points, so pick the route your team clears fastest and cleanest.
- The Horn of Bran unlocks Zeal. It upgrades Piety to +25% Attack, +28% Strength and +25% Defence, and needs 84 Prayer, 75 Attack and 75 Strength.
- Ascension shards run three rewards. They make crossbow bolts and charge the Obligator and Archivist's folio; mine them at 80 Mining in the lobby between raids.
Fractured Archive Rewards: The Short Answer
The Fractured Archive is Raid 4 in Old School, released on 20 October 2026 (players also call it Raids 4 or TFA). Its unique chest holds five items: the Obligator, the Ascension crossbows, the Rondache, Zorya's tome and the Horn of Bran, which unlocks the Zeal prayer. The rest of the chest gives the untradeable elemental fragments and Archivist's folio, plus tradeable Ascension shards.
None of the drop rates are public. The wiki's chest page lists every unique as "Unknown", so anyone quoting a purple rate is guessing. For the raid itself (entry, bosses, wipes and grouping), read our full Raid 4 guide.
How Raid 4 Loot Works
After you kill Ocellus, The Blade takes you to a reward room on another plane. Eight standard chests stand around the edge, and you can open only your own, the one that sparkles. If a unique was earned, a special chest appears on a raised platform to the north and gives one item (Chest (The Fractured Archive)).
- 1
Standard loot is rolled 3 times.
Under conditions the wiki has not worked out yet, one of the three rolls pays 5 times the normal quantity.
- 2
Elemental fragments sit on that standard table
, so you can get one without a purple.
- 3
Path choice does not change your odds.
Every "choose between" boss option gives the same total contribution points, according to Jagex's Out Today post.
- 4
Poor performers get a cabbage
and nothing else. The wiki has not explained the exact condition.
- 5
Unclaimed loot waits in the Loot Wheelbarrow
in the lobby if you leave the room before opening your chest.
Practical rule: pick the boss path your team clears fastest and cleanest. The choice itself does not move your unique chance from a completion, so more clears per hour is what you can control.
Every Fractured Archive Reward at a Glance
Stats, slots and tradeability come from the item pages on the OSRS Wiki. "Slot" means where the item goes on your character, or what kind of item it is if you cannot wear it.
| Reward | Tradeable | Slot and requirement | What it does | Replaces or competes with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Obligator | Only when fully uncharged | Two-handed weapon, 85 Attack | Crush weapon with a 5-tick multi-target Thrust and a 3-tick single-target Smash; rolls damage up to 4 times and keeps the best | The raid's Crush megarare; Nex's Crush defence was cut to +35 in the same update so it performs there |
| Rondache | Yes | Shield, 80 Defence | +2 flat armour and +2 magic resistance; blocked damage charges an instant Shield Bash special | Your off-hand defender or shield |
| Zorya's tome | Only when fully uncharged | Two-handed powered staff, 85 Magic | 3-tick attacks, base max hit 18; its special adds 150% accuracy and 60% damage to one spell and the next three | A magic special-attack switch; base damage sits below the Eye of Ayak |
| Ascension crossbows | Yes | Two-handed (dual-wield), 80 Ranged | Heavy ranged, every 2 ticks on Rapid, 6-tile range (8 on Longrange), Ascension bolts only | Jagex calls them a raid-tier upgrade to the Toxic blowpipe |

Obligator: The Crush Megarare
The Obligator is a two-handed Crush weapon that needs 85 Attack. It gives +120 Crush, +22 Stab, -8 Slash, +40 Strength and +3 Prayer. It is tradeable only when completely uncharged, so uncharge it before you list it.
It has two styles. Thrust attacks every 5 ticks and hits several targets in a line, or a large target for more damage. Smash attacks every 3 ticks but drops the damage re-rolls and the multi-target hit, so it only ever hits one target.
The passive is what makes it a megarare. It rolls damage up to four times, depending on how weak the target is to Crush compared with Stab and Slash, and keeps the best roll. It also deals 20% more damage to 2x2 targets and 40% more to targets 3x3 or larger (Out Today).
Charging costs 1 Ascension shard, 20 nature runes and 20 death runes for every 10 charges. The wiki does not list a maximum charge count yet.
The same update cut Nex's Crush defence from +60 to +35, and Jagex said the change is there so the Obligator shines against her. Chase it if you melee Nex or other large, Crush-weak bosses. Against targets with neutral defences, Jagex's pre-release poll blog still expected the Scythe of Vitur to come out slightly ahead.
Rondache: How Its Shield Bash Works With Other Specs

The Rondache is a tradeable shield that needs 80 Defence. It gives +35 Stab, +41 Slash, +38 Crush and +55 Ranged defence, -6 Magic defence and +8 Strength, with -5 Magic and -8 Ranged attack. The headline is +2 flat armour and +2 magic resistance: every Melee, Ranged and Magic hit you take is 2 lower.
The damage it blocks turns into charges for its special attack, Shield Bash, which fires instantly. How you trigger it depends on your main-hand weapon (Out Today).
With a weapon that has no special attack
The Rondache adds its own special bar to the Combat Styles tab and takes over the special attack orb next to the minimap. Most one-handed weapons people use fall into this group, so you click the orb as normal.
With a weapon that has its own special attack
Both bars appear in the Combat Styles tab, so you can fire both specs back to back. The orb keeps your weapon's special; right-click it to fire Shield Bash without opening the tab. A thin bar under your special energy on the orb fills as the Rondache charges.
Shield Bash XP goes to the attack style you have selected: Aggressive gives Strength XP, Shared gives shared XP.
Use it where small hits add up over a long fight. Let the charges build, then fire the bash as a finisher or straight after your weapon's spec. In fights where you rarely get hit, Jagex's own advice was that the Avernic defender comes out ahead.
Zorya's Tome: A Magic Special Attack Weapon

Zorya's tome is a two-handed book that needs 85 Magic and works as a powered staff. Like the Obligator, it can only be traded while it is fully uncharged. It attacks every 3 ticks with a base max hit of 18 and a 7-tile range, and gives +45 Magic attack, +15% Magic damage and +2 Prayer.
Its special attack fires one spell with 150% more accuracy and 60% more damage. If that spell hits, your next three tome attacks get the same bonuses and fire every 2 ticks instead of 3.
The wiki puts its base damage below the Eye of Ayak, so it is not your main magic weapon. It is a switch you bring for the special. As a two-handed magic weapon, it does not get the accuracy effect of confliction gauntlets.
The tome has Charge and Uncharge options, but the wiki does not yet say what charges it, how many charges it holds or how much special energy the spec costs. Jagex's poll blog aimed it at targets where Dragon claws' accuracy falls short, or whose hitpoints are too low for the Zaryte crossbow spec to pay off. It began as the Gatekeeper's Cane and was redesigned before the poll.
Verdict: bring it as a burst-damage spec on a magic setup. Keep your main staff for normal attacks.
Ascension Crossbows and Ascension Bolts
The Ascension crossbows are tradeable, dual-wielded crossbows in the two-handed slot that need 80 Ranged. They use Heavy ranged, give +34 Ranged attack and +3 Magic attack, and fire every 2 ticks on Rapid or every 3 ticks on Accurate and Longrange. Range is 6 tiles, or 8 on Longrange.
Jagex calls them a raid-tier upgrade to the Toxic blowpipe. The catch is ammo: they fire only Ascension bolts and the gem-tipped versions, so every bolt starts as an Ascension shard.
| Bolt | Ranged strength | How to make | Fletching | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ascension bolts | +53 | 1 Ascension shard makes 10 bolts | 86 | 140 XP per shard; needs a regular chisel |
| Diamond ascension bolts | +58 | 10 Ascension bolts + 10 diamond bolt tips | 86 | Enchanting them needs 57 Magic |
| Onyx ascension bolts | +58 | 10 Ascension bolts + 10 onyx bolt tips | 86 | Enchanting them needs 87 Magic |
Jagex's poll blog said the bolts must be equipped for Dizana's quiver bonuses to apply. Plan the bolt supply before the crossbows: at 10 bolts per shard, 100 shards make 1,000 bolts.
Zeal Prayer and the Horn of Bran: How Zeal Is Unlocked
Zeal is an upgraded Piety. It needs 84 Prayer, 75 Attack and 75 Strength, and once unlocked it replaces Piety in your prayer book, the same way the Royal Titans prayer scrolls replace Eagle Eye and Mystic Might.
| Prayer | Prayer level | Other requirements | Attack | Strength | Defence | Drain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Piety | 70 | 70 Defence, King's Ransom and Knight Waves | +20% | +23% | +25% | 40 points per minute |
| Zeal | 84 | 75 Attack, 75 Strength, Horn of Bran unlock | +25% | +28% | +25% | 40 points per minute |
The drain rate matches Piety's, so the extra Attack and Strength cost no extra prayer points. Jagex's poll blog put the gain at roughly 6 extra Strength levels for a 99 Strength player on Super combat potions, plus the extra accuracy.
How Zeal is unlocked
You unlock Zeal with the Horn of Bran, a tradeable item from the unique chest. You cannot equip it; its only options are Inspect and Drop. The wiki says using it takes a "more involved process" than reading a scroll, and the steps are not documented yet.
Jagex hinted in the Out Today post that the Record Keeper in the lobby may help. The poll blog also said you need Piety unlocked first. Zeal is unlocked automatically in Last Man Standing and in Pete Kayer's challenges.
- 1
Get 84 Prayer, 75 Attack and 75 Strength, and unlock Piety.
Our Prayer guide has the cheapest route to 84.
- 2
Get a Horn of Bran from the raid, or buy one if you are not an ironman.
- 3
Inspect the horn, then try the Record Keeper, the NPC Jagex hinted at.
Elemental Fragments: +2 Max Hit for Each Element
There are four elemental fragments: whispering wind (air), deep water (water), living earth (earth) and burning fire (fire). They are untradeable. Using one permanently raises the base max hit of that element's spells by 2.
The +2 is added before Magic damage bonuses and elemental-weakness multipliers, so it grows with both. Fragments come from the standard-loot table, which is rolled 3 times per chest, and they have duplicate protection, so you should not keep getting the same element. Jagex's poll blog expected them to be "pretty common", with pity mechanics like the Keris partisan jewels from Tombs of Amascut.
Fractured Archive bosses and their elemental weaknesses
The fragments pay off inside the raid, because most Raid 4 bosses have an elemental weakness on their wiki infobox:
| Boss | Elemental weakness | Fragment that helps |
|---|---|---|
| Archive Guardian | Fire, 80% | Burning fire |
| Ezekiel | Earth, 25% | Living earth |
| Bork | Earth, 40% | Living earth |
| The Smorks | Earth, 85% | Living earth |
| Moia | Air, 80% | Whispering wind |
| Dreadnoth the Jellied | Fire, 85% | Burning fire |
| Xarth | Water, 85% | Deep water |
| Dagon'hai Elder and Monks | No combat stats on the wiki yet | Unknown |
| Ocellus | None listed | None |
Use each fragment the moment you get it. They cannot be sold, so there is nothing to gain by holding one.
Archivist's Folio: Teleports to the Raid Lobby
The Archivist's folio is untradeable and teleports you to the Fractured Archive lobby. It drops inert, and you charge it with Ascension shards at 5 teleports per shard, so 20 shards give 100 teleports.
The wiki's pages disagree on how it drops: the chest page lists the inert folio as tertiary loot, while the raid page lists it with the uniques. Its rate is unknown either way.
Until you have one, these are the ways in (The Fractured Archive):
- Teleport to Tears of Guthix with a games necklace, carry a lit sapphire lantern so a light creature takes you into the Chasm of Tears, then crawl through the opening to the south-west.
- Read a Guthixian temple teleport scroll. They drop from Tormented Demons at 1/12, in stacks of 2.
- Run from the Lumbridge swamp caves.
Once the folio drops, charge it with a small stack of shards and top it up from your raid loot.
Ascension Shards: Sources and Uses
Ascension shards are tradeable and stackable, with a Grand Exchange buy limit of 100. Three of the rewards above run on them: the crossbows for ammo, the Obligator for charges and the folio for teleports.
| Source | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Raid chest, standard loot | 75–78 per roll | If shards land on the 5x roll, you get five times as many |
| Ascension rocks in the lobby | 1 at a time | 80 Mining, 15 XP per shard; the wiki estimates about 130 shards and 5,500 XP an hour at 99 Mining with a dragon pickaxe |
| Sprites that appear while you mine | 1–2 each | Click them when they show up |
| Use | Cost | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Ascension bolts | 1 shard, 86 Fletching | 10 bolts and 140 Fletching XP |
| Obligator charges | 1 shard + 20 nature runes + 20 death runes | 10 charges |
| Archivist's folio | 1 shard | 5 teleports |
Three rocks are active at a time, and each depletes every 295 ticks. They cannot be tick-manipulated, extra-resource effects do not apply, and a crystal pickaxe uses its charges here. Mine them while you wait for a team to fill.
Orion, Living Record Capes and the Standard Loot
Orion is the raid pet. It is untradeable, has a robed variant and has no published drop rate. The Living record capes are cosmetic and come from an NPC at 100, 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 completions, and you can switch to any tier you have earned. The chest can also give an elite clue scroll as tertiary loot.
The rest of the standard table is bulk supplies. These are base quantities per roll, before any 5x roll:
| Group | Items and base quantity |
|---|---|
| Runes | Nature 311–342, astral 303–358, blood 302–321, soul 310–342, earth 3,063–3,351 |
| Herbs | Grimy harralander 60–64, grimy ranarr weed 18–19, grimy toadflax 24–28 |
| Seeds | Snapdragon 3, kwuarm 7, snape grass 7, yew 4 |
| Ores and gems | Iron ore 859–887, adamantite ore 61–67, runite ore 25–26; sapphire, emerald, ruby and diamond 24–25 each |
| Weapons and armour | Battlestaff 34–36, dragon platelegs or plateskirt 1, rune kiteshield 6 |
| Other | Ascension shards 75–78, desiccated page 31–33, aether catalyst 182–189, pure essence 1,427–1,630, mahogany logs 140–145, onyx bolt tips 50–58, dragon arrowtips 351–367, earth orb 68–71, raw shark 81–89, wine of Zamorak 32–34 |
| Elemental fragments | 1 fragment of one element |
Jagex's pre-release blog said it aims for regular loot just below Theatre of Blood and may adjust it once shard prices settle. Keep the onyx bolt tips if you use the crossbows: they turn straight into onyx ascension bolts.
Which Reward Matters for Which Account
Tradeable uniques mean a main can buy any of them. An ironman has to raid for everything, and some pure builds cannot enter at all, because the raid needs While Guthix Sleeps. Jagex's pre-release blog said builds that cannot finish that quest were not given a way in at launch.
| Reward | Main | Ironman | Pure | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Horn of Bran (Zeal) | Buy it once you have 84 Prayer and 75 Attack and Strength | Worth chasing; you need your own drop | Out: the poll blog says Zeal needs Piety, and Piety needs 70 Defence | Permanent upgrade to every melee fight |
| Obligator | Chase or buy it if you melee large Crush-weak bosses such as Nex | A long chase with no known rate; charges cost shards, nature and death runes | 85 Attack, no Defence requirement listed | Top pick for melee at big targets |
| Ascension crossbows | Blowpipe upgrade; budget shards for bolts | Strong, but every bolt costs shards and you need 86 Fletching to make them | 80 Ranged, no Defence requirement listed | Best value if you can keep up with bolts |
| Elemental fragments | Use each one; raiding is the only source | Same, and they help every elemental spell you cast | Only if the account can enter the raid | Free damage for anyone who raids |
| Archivist's folio | Saves the lantern walk every trip | Same | Only if the account can enter the raid | Charge it as soon as it drops |
| Zorya's tome | A magic spec switch, not a main staff | Same; you need the drop | 85 Magic, no Defence requirement listed | Situational |
| Rondache | Niche: long fights with lots of chip damage | Same use; you need the drop | Needs 80 Defence | Situational |
Pick the Horn of Bran first if you melee and meet the levels: Zeal works in every melee fight you do. Pick the crossbows if ranged is your main style and you can supply bolts. Chase the Obligator if you melee big, Crush-weak bosses.
Ironman notes
- Every unique has to come from your own raids, so shards matter twice: bolts for the crossbows, and charges for the Obligator and the folio. Mine the Ascension rocks between raids.
- Hardcore Ironmen and Hardcore Group Ironmen lose their status if they die in the raid. Raid deaths are not safe deaths.
- Ultimate Ironmen with items stored at Pete Kayer cannot enter until they reclaim them, a known launch issue.
- See our ironman equipment progression for where raid gear fits on an iron's route.
Pure notes
The wiki lists no Defence requirement for the Obligator, Zorya's tome or the Ascension crossbows, so a pure can wield ones bought from the Grand Exchange at 85 Attack, 85 Magic or 80 Ranged. The Rondache (80 Defence) is out. Zeal is out too if the poll blog's Piety requirement made it into the game, because Piety needs 70 Defence. Our pure builds guide shows which builds reach those levels.
What Is Not Known Yet
One day after release, the wiki still lists these as unknown or undocumented:
- The drop rate of every unique: Obligator, Rondache, Zorya's tome, Ascension crossbows and Horn of Bran.
- The rates for Orion, the Archivist's folio and the elite clue scroll.
- The standard-loot weights, what triggers the 5x roll and what counts as performing poorly.
- How contribution points are calculated, the points-to-unique formula and whether points are capped.
- How the fragments' duplicate protection works.
- What charges Zorya's tome, how many charges it holds and what its special costs.
- The Obligator's maximum charges.
- The Shield Bash energy cost. Its 20-charge cap and damage formula are still blog-only.
- The steps to unlock Zeal with the Horn of Bran.
The only hint at a date for drop rates was a joke line from Mod Arcane in the pre-release blog: "drop rates will be coming week 2". Do not plan around it. Until the rarity column on the chest page fills in, treat any posted purple rate as a guess.
Common Mistakes
- 1
Picking a boss path to boost purple odds.
Every choose-between option gives the same total contribution points. Pick the path your team clears fastest.
- 2
Making bolts with a Jeweller's chisel.
It does not work on Ascension shards at launch; use a regular chisel.
- 3
Listing a charged Obligator or Zorya's tome.
Both are tradeable only when completely uncharged, so uncharge them first.
- 4
Buying the Horn of Bran before checking the levels.
Zeal needs 84 Prayer, 75 Attack and 75 Strength, and the wiki calls the unlock a "more involved process" without listing the steps yet.
- 5
Using Zorya's tome as a main staff.
Its base max hit of 18 sits below the Eye of Ayak. Its value is the special attack and the three buffed follow-up hits.
FAQ
What are the Raid 4 uniques in OSRS?
Five items come from the unique chest: the Obligator, Ascension crossbows, Rondache, Zorya's tome and the Horn of Bran. The 17-slot collection log also holds the pet Orion, the Archivist's folio, the four elemental fragments, Ascension shards and five Living record capes.
What is the Obligator drop rate?
Unknown. The wiki lists every unique's rarity as "Unknown" and marks the section incomplete. Choosing a different boss path does not change your chance from a completion.
What are the Fractured Archive requirements, and how do you get there?
You need While Guthix Sleeps completed. The Fractured Archive miniquest starts the first time you try to enter the lobby, and the wiki recommends combat level 110. To get there, teleport to Tears of Guthix with a games necklace, carry a lit sapphire lantern so a light creature takes you into the Chasm of Tears, and crawl through the opening to the south-west. A Guthixian temple teleport or a charged Archivist's folio is quicker.
Are Ascension crossbows better than the Toxic blowpipe?
Jagex calls them a raid-tier upgrade to the blowpipe. They fire every 2 ticks on Rapid, use Heavy ranged and need 80 Ranged. The trade-offs: a 6-tile range (8 on Longrange), and they fire nothing but Ascension bolts, which cost shards.
How do you unlock the Zeal prayer in OSRS?
With the Horn of Bran from the Fractured Archive unique chest, plus 84 Prayer, 75 Attack and 75 Strength. The wiki says the unlock is more involved than reading a scroll and does not list the steps yet. Jagex hinted that the Record Keeper in the lobby may help.
Can you use the Rondache special with another weapon's special attack?
Yes. With a weapon that has its own spec, both bars sit in the Combat Styles tab, the orb keeps your weapon's spec, and right-clicking the orb fires Shield Bash. With a weapon that has no spec, the Rondache takes over the orb.
Can you trade elemental fragments or the Archivist's folio?
No. Both are untradeable, so raiding is the only way to get them. The Obligator, Rondache, Zorya's tome, Ascension crossbows, Horn of Bran and Ascension shards are all tradeable; the Obligator and Zorya's tome only when fully uncharged.

Where Paid Help Fits
If you want a shot at Raid 4 uniques or the elemental fragments but cannot spend launch weeks learning new bosses, our Raid 4 service is listed but not priced yet. Ask on live chat or Discord what it covers and what it costs before you plan around it. If you are still short of the entry quest, the While Guthix Sleeps guide lists what stands between you and the lobby.
Bottom Line
The Obligator and the Ascension crossbows are the big damage upgrades from Raid 4, the Horn of Bran gives melee accounts Zeal, and the elemental fragments are free max hit for anyone who raids. Zorya's tome and the Rondache are situational. No drop rate is public yet, so judge your odds by clears rather than any rate you read online, and start stockpiling Ascension shards now, because three of the rewards run on them.
