The short version
30-second read- Spider tasks do not open the Silk Chasm. You need the medium Wilderness Diary or a Venenatis boss Slayer task, plus the 50,000 coin fee.
- Move south after entering the chasm. Everyone enters at the north side, so standing south gives the most warning when PKers arrive.
- The Ursine chainmace is the strongest weapon here. Her crush defence is only +10, and Inquisitor's mace, elder maul or abyssal bludgeon also work.
- Do not exit right behind a PKer. Anyone leaving within 10 seconds lands at the same Escape Caves point.
Venenatis at a Glance
Venenatis is a level 464 spider with 850 hitpoints in the Silk Chasm, a multi-combat lair at level 35 Wilderness. To get in you need the medium Wilderness Diary or a Venenatis boss Slayer task (a normal spider task does not count), plus a 50,000 coin lair fee that can come straight from your bank.
She melees anyone standing next to her and uses ranged or magic on everyone else, moving to a new spot every four attacks. The fight is about two add-ons. Spiderlings drain prayer on every hit and let her damage go through protection prayers while they live. A sticky web drains prayer and run energy from anyone standing in it, which can end an escape from PKers before it starts.
Her uniques are fangs of Venenatis (1/196), the dragon 2h sword and dragon pickaxe (1/256 each), the voidwaker gem (1/360), the treasonous ring (1/512) and the Venenatis spiderling pet (1/1,500).

Access Requirements
The Silk Chasm needs the medium Wilderness Diary, or a Venenatis boss Slayer task, which bypasses the diary for both Venenatis and Spindel. A spider task from Turael or Spria still counts kills, but it does not open the door.
The 50,000 coin fee is shared by all six Wilderness lair bosses and the Escape Caves. You only pay it again if you die to another player before leaving the Wilderness, and in that case the fee drops as loot for your killer. Top-damage kills on the lair bosses lower the fee by 10,000 coins each. The boss requirements checklist lists the other gated bosses.
Silk Chasm Location and How to Get There
The Silk Chasm is in the far east of the Wilderness at level 35, just south-east of Callisto's Den.
- Wilderness crabs teleport: the fastest option. It lands you at the dark crab fishing spot just south-east of the lair.
- Annakarl Teleport (90 Magic, Ancient Magicks) or its tablet puts you in the Demonic Ruins; head south-east.
- A waka canoe from Edgeville (57 Woodcutting) to the Wilderness stop, then east past Vet'ion's Rest.
- A games necklace to the Corporeal Beast cave, then run north-east.
- With the hard diary, Wilderness obelisks to level 19, 35 or 55.
- Wilderness sword 3 (hard diary, once a day) or sword 4 (elite diary, unlimited) to the Fountain of Rune, then run south-west.
Leaving the chasm puts you at one of three random points in the Escape Caves. Anyone who exits within 10 seconds of you comes out at the same point, so a PKer can follow you through.
Best Gear for Venenatis
| Check | Value |
|---|---|
| Prayer | Protect from Melee if you are next to her; otherwise Missiles or Magic, swapping as her cycle changes |
| Her Defence level | 321 |
| Her Magic level | 300 |
| Lowest defence bonus | Crush (+10) |
| Elemental weakness | 40% to fire spells |
| Poison and venom | Immune to both |
Melee with a crush weapon is the standard. The wiki rates the ursine chainmace as the strongest weapon here, and the usual four protected items are the chainmace, your best defender, an amulet of rancour and an ultor ring or berserker ring (i). Inquisitor's mace, elder maul and abyssal bludgeon also hit her crush weakness.
Ranged works with the webweaver bow or craw's bow, which do well despite her +150 ranged defence and let you stay near the exit. Suggested levels from the wiki are 75 Attack, 80 Strength, 70 Defence and 70 Hitpoints, with 85 Attack, 90 Strength, 75 Defence and 85 Hitpoints recommended.
Inventory and Supplies
- Food for her 35 ranged and 30 magic max hits, plus extra for running from PKers.
- Prayer potions or blighted super restores. Spiderlings and the web both drain prayer.
- Something to clear spiderlings fast: darts, throwing knives, chinchompas, or a burst spell with blighted ancient ice sacks at 70+ Magic.
- A stamina potion. The web drains 10 run energy per hit.
- A royal seed pod or charged glory, which work up to level 30 Wilderness.

Where Venenatis Sits in Progression
Venenatis sits with Callisto and Vet'ion at the top of the Wilderness boss list. All three are multi-combat lair bosses behind the medium diary, and all three drop a voidwaker piece and a Wilderness ring.
Single-Way Versus Multi: Spindel
Spindel is the level 302 version in the Web Chasm, a singles-plus lair at level 29 Wilderness. She needs the hard Wilderness Diary instead of the medium one, uses the same mechanics with lower stats, and shares the collection log, but drops at lower quantities and rates. Her lair is under level 30, so you can teleport straight out with a glory or seed pod.
Learn the cycle on Spindel, then move to Venenatis for the better loot. Spindel kills also count toward the Venenatis Combat Achievements and boss Slayer tasks.
Venenatis Strategy: Spiderlings, Web and the Attack Cycle
- 1
Move south after entering.
Everyone who enters the chasm appears at the north side, so standing south gives you the most warning when PKers arrive.
- 2
Know the cycle: 8 ranged attacks, then 8 magic attacks, with a move every 4 attacks.
If you melee her you only take melee, so Protect from Melee stays on. At range, swap between Missiles and Magic every two moves.
- 3
Kill the spiderlings the moment they spawn, on the first ranged attack of each cycle.
They have 5 HP and die to one hit from anything, but while alive they drain prayer on every hit, raise her max hit and let her hit through prayer. Thrall damage is reduced while they are up.
- 4
The web comes on the third magic attack.
Stand at the edge of the arena for that attack so the 7x5 web lands mostly out of the way, and never walk through it: every hit deals 3 damage, drains 3 prayer and 10 run energy.
- 5
With more than 10 players in the chasm she moves more often and uses a special every time she moves instead of every other time.
Venenatis Drops
The unique table is rolled once per kill, about 1/56.67, and at most one unique drops. In a team the game picks the recipient weighted by damage dealt. Normal loot is split by damage between up to 10 players, and each of them gets at least 25% of the solo quantity.
| Item | Rate |
|---|---|
| Fangs of Venenatis | 1/196 |
| Dragon 2h sword | 1/256 |
| Dragon pickaxe | 1/256 |
| Voidwaker gem | 1/360 |
| Treasonous ring | 1/512 |
| Venenatis spiderling (pet) | 1/1,500, rolled per player and scaled by damage |
| Elite clue scroll | 1/100 (1/50 with ring of wealth (i)) |
Combat Achievements
Venenatis has two kill-count tasks worth 7 points: Venenatis Adept (10 kills, hard) and Venenatis Veteran (20 kills, elite). Spindel kills count toward both. The other tiers are in our Combat Achievements guide.
Ironman Notes
Venenatis counts for spider tasks, so Turael, Spria, Krystilia, Konar, Nieve and Duradel can all send you there. Each kill is 956.2 Slayer XP.
Ironmen get drops from team kills, but they need to deal 7% of the total damage to qualify for the 25% loot share. Below 7% they get at least 5% of the solo loot.
Common Mistakes
- Leaving spiderlings alive. They let her hit through prayer and drain it on every hit.
- Walking through the web while running from PKers. Ten run energy per hit ends the escape.
- Keeping the same overhead after she moves twice and switches style.
- Exiting right behind a PKer. Anyone leaving within 10 seconds lands at the same Escape Caves point.
- Bringing gear you cannot replace into a level 35 multi lair.
FAQ
What is the best Venenatis strategy in OSRS?
Melee her with a crush weapon on Protect from Melee, kill the spiderlings as soon as they appear, and stay out of the web. Ranged players swap between Protect from Missiles and Protect from Magic every two moves, following the 8 ranged, 8 magic cycle.
What do I need to fight Venenatis?
The medium Wilderness Diary or a Venenatis boss Slayer task, plus the 50,000 coin lair fee. The wiki suggests at least 75 Attack, 80 Strength, 70 Defence and 70 Hitpoints.
How hard does Venenatis hit?
Up to 21 with melee, 35 with ranged and 30 with magic, every 4 ticks. Live spiderlings raise those numbers and let her hit through prayer. She has 850 hitpoints.
Where is the Silk Chasm in OSRS?
At level 35 in the far east of the Wilderness, just south-east of Callisto's Den. A Wilderness crabs teleport lands you right next to it.
What is the best weapon for Venenatis?
The ursine chainmace, since she is weakest to crush. For ranged, the webweaver bow or craw's bow. Keep valuable items to the three or four you protect.
Is Venenatis worth doing?
For the voidwaker gem, treasonous ring and fangs, yes, especially in a team that knows the cycle. If you only want the collection log slots with less risk, Spindel drops the same items at lower rates.
Still stuck on a mechanic? Ask the team on our Discord, it is free.
Bottom Line
Venenatis is a pattern fight: spiderlings on the first ranged attack, web on the third magic attack, a move every four attacks. Once the team handles that without thinking, the danger left is the multi lair at level 35 and whoever walks in behind you.
If you want kills or the Combat Achievements done without risking your own gear, our Venenatis service is played by hand. The bosses list covers every other boss.
