Amoxliatl OSRS Guide: How to Get There, Gear and Drops

Overview: Amoxliatl at a Glance

Amoxliatl is the frost nagua boss at the end of The Heart of Darkness, fought in the Ruins of Tapoyauik under the Tower of Ascension in Varlamore. To get there, teleport to the Twilight Temple with a pendant of ates, take the lift platform on the tower's ground floor down to the bottom floor, and go through the door at the west end past the frost nagua. She has 520 hitpoints, attacks only with magic and is weakest to crush.

The drops worth farming are the glacial temotli (1/100), the pendant of ates (1/25) and the Moxi pet (1/3,000), and every kill gives frozen tears to charge the pendant. Your first kill is the quest's final fight; after that she is a repeatable instanced boss that respawns in 17.4 seconds.

Access Requirements

You need The Heart of Darkness finished. The quest needs 55 Mining, 48 Thieving, 48 Slayer and 46 Agility, none of them boostable, plus Twilight's Promise (which itself needs Children of the Sun). On top of that, the wiki's strategy page recommends 60+ Attack, Strength, Defence and Hitpoints, plus 37 Prayer for Protect from Magic.

How to Get to Amoxliatl

1. 1

   Teleport to the Twilight Temple with a pendant of ates.

   You have to activate the statue of Ates there once before the teleport works. The statue is outside the Tower of Ascension, and the teleport lands near the lift.

   No pendant yet:

   take the Quetzal Transport System to Quetzacalli Gorge (unlocked by default), run north-east through the gate, then south around The Proudspire.

   Or fly to Salvager Overlook, once you have built its landing site, and run south to the Twilight Temple.

   Use the lift platform on the Tower of Ascension's ground floor to go down to the bottom floor of the Ruins of Tapoyauik.

   Walk to the west end of the bottom floor, past the frost nagua, and go through the door to Amoxliatl's lair.

The pendant of ates drops from Amoxliatl at 1/25 and from frost nagua at 1/100, and it runs on frozen tears, one tear per charge. Once you have one, the trip from a bank is a single teleport and a lift ride. For the way out, the wiki's inventory lists a house tablet, construction cape or desert amulet 4.

Recommended Combat Stats and Gear

• Weapon: crush with several hitsplats is best, so the scythe of vitur, dual macuahuitl or the glacial temotli she drops. The soulreaper axe and abyssal bludgeon also work; the wiki advises against Torag's hammers.
• Stack Strength bonus over accuracy. Her Defence is only 80.
• A Saradomin godsword special guarantees a max hit on an unstable ice block.
• Skip magic despite the 30% fire weakness. Unstable ice only takes melee damage, so a mage setup cannot deal with it.
• Armour: Inquisitor's or Torva, or a slayer helmet (i) on a lesser nagua task, with an Avernic or dragon defender and an Ultor or berserker ring (i). Thralls are worth casting.

Inventory and Supplies

• Plenty of prayer potions or super restores. Protect from Magic stays on for the whole kill.
• Manta rays, sharks or monkfish; potato with cheese is the cheap option.
• One divine super combat potion.
• A special attack weapon such as burning claws or a dragon dagger.
• Book of the dead and a rune pouch with thrall and Death Charge runes.
• Your pendant of ates and a way out: house tablet, construction cape or desert amulet 4.
• No cannon: she is immune.

Mechanics: Attack Styles, Max Hits and Immunities

Fight Strategy

   Turn on Protect from Magic before you walk in and leave it on.

2. 2

   Her standard attack sends up ice spikes.

   Prayer blocks the first hit, but the spikes themselves deal typeless damage, and an icy pool forms on the tile you stood on for 6-10 damage a tick. Step two tiles away to drag her, then attack from a clean tile.

   Every 2-4 standard attacks she uses one of two specials.

   The first is random, then they alternate.

   Unstable ice: 1-4 blocks appear near you.

   Smash each one with melee within 15 ticks (melee on ice has an attack speed of 1), or it bursts into a 3x3 icy pool and heals her 16-25. Eat right after breaking a block to skip the usual delay.

   Icicle Crash: she turns your prayers off, then throws an icicle for up to 34.

   Switch Protect from Magic back on before it lands and it does nothing. Standing in the 3-tile pathway to her platform forces this attack.

6. 6

   Between kills, catch moonlight moths just outside the room to restore prayer.

   Barehanded needs 85 Hunter; with a butterfly net, 75.

Drops and What Amoxliatl Is Worth

The rest of the table is runes, noted ores, rune armour and weapons, and gem drops. The temotli is one of the crush weapons the wiki recommends against her, so your first one speeds up every kill after it.

Combat Achievements

Amoxliatl has 9 Combat Achievement tasks worth 27 points: two Medium (Temotli Triumph, Amoxliatl Champion), five Hard and two Elite (Amoxliatl Speed-Chaser, Without Ralos' Light). Her max hit is 34 and Protect from Magic blocks the first hit of her standard attack, so the hard part of these tasks is clean execution. Our Combat Achievements guide covers how the tiers work.

Amoxliatl on a Slayer Task

On a lesser nagua Slayer task you can kill Amoxliatl instead of regular nagua. The task needs 48 Slayer and Perilous Moons, Chaeldar and Konar assign it, and each kill is worth 546 Slayer XP.

Ironman Notes

She is the better pendant of ates source for an iron, at 1/25 against 1/100 from frost nagua, and a pendant of ates saves a lot of running around Varlamore.

Common Mistakes and Death Causes

• Leaving unstable ice alive. Each block that bursts heals her 16-25 and leaves a 3x3 pool.
• Standing in the icy pool on your old tile, which hits for 6-10 every tick.
• Forgetting to re-pray after Icicle Crash turns your prayers off. That icicle hits up to 34.
• Standing in the 3-tile pathway to her platform, which forces Icicle Crash.
• Bringing a mage setup for the fire weakness. Unstable ice only takes melee damage.
• Setting up a cannon she is immune to.
